Fever is a symbolic or self-protective process of the human body. When there is a fever, the temperature of the human body increases. Human body heat is conducted by a system. When the system decides to increase the temperature, fever occurs. In general, a body temperature above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit and 937 degrees Celsius is considered a fever.


A body temperature above 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) is considered dangerous. Fever is a sign of infection somewhere in the body. Fever occurs due to the infection of micro-organisms such as virus, bacteria or when there is a big injury in the body.






But having a fever is stressful, struggling and painful, as it weakens your body and makes you hungry and unwilling to do anything. When you have a fever, you may not feel like eating or drinking anything, but it's important to eat a more balanced diet when you have a fever than usual because of the extra stress on your body. Also, nutrients and energy are needed to strengthen the body's immune system while fighting infections.


Foods to eat and not to eat when you have a fever




Khichdi (Jaulo): This is a popular comfort food made with rice, lentils and mild spices. It is easy to digest and provides carbohydrates, proteins and essential nutrients. It contains more water than normal rice, which is necessary to keep the body hydrated.


Coconut water: During fever, there is a great lack of water in the body. Consuming coconut water is very beneficial to keep the body strong and hydrated. Coconut water helps regulate body temperature and is also beneficial in fighting infections. By drinking coconut water, essential nutrients from food reach the cells quickly.


Fruits: Fruits are your friend when you have a fever. Many fruits are great for rehydrating because of their high water content. Also, many contain significant amounts of vitamin C, which is essential for immune response and cell repair. If the appetite is low, it is recommended to eat these fruits. You can eat fruits like watermelon, pomegranate, kiwi, banana and apple.




Chicken soup: Chicken soup is a suitable food for any disease. It provides nutrients to the body and helps maintain fluid balance in the body. It also helps in reducing the temperature. It also flushes out toxins from the body. The sodium in the soup helps build electrolytes. Chicken soup is rich in vitamins, minerals, calories and protein.


Vegetables: Seasonal vegetables provide additional essential vitamins and minerals. Which can support the immune system and help get rid of fever.


Yogurt: Yogurt cools and relaxes the body. It is a good source of probiotics, its good bacteria, which destroy other harmful microorganisms. Yogurt is also an incredible source of protein, so even if you're not very hungry, you'll still get plenty of nutrients in a small amount. It should be fresh and not cold just taken out of the fridge.


High protein foods: When it comes to fighting infection, protein is at the top of the list. Protein-rich foods like legumes, nuts, chicken, fish, and eggs contain healthy protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B-6 and B-12, zinc, and selenium, which help improve bone health, brain health, and overall immunity. Naturally. Even if you don't feel like eating whole, you should take small meals in the form of soup, salad, small pieces. It should not be oily or spicy.


Chicken meat is rich in protein. Protein is necessary to fight any disease. So when you have fever, you can eat chicken cooked in less oil. But red meat which is difficult to digest should not be eaten.


Foods that should not be eaten during fever


Rice: There is no strict restriction on eating rice, but rice is a complex carbohydrate, which can be very difficult to digest. It may take longer to digest than barley. This can cause discomfort in digestion. Since rice is a starchy food, it has the ability to further dehydrate the body, which increases the effects of fever.


Alcohol, soda, tea and coffee drinks: These drinks cause dehydration, sleep disturbance and stomach ache. While the body needs plenty of fluids during a fever, it needs a soothing drink to fight off an infection.


Processed foods: Cakes, cookies, pastries, candies, ice creams, crackers, chips, pakodas, laddus, bhaturas, pickled samosas etc. can irritate the lining of the stomach and aggravate digestive problems, cause swelling in the body and interfere with your immune system.


Similarly, you should stay away from fried foods, spicy and greasy foods. They are difficult to digest and can cause extra burden on the stomach.
