Positive Parenting: Love, Respect, and Empathy
Positive parenting is a method based on love, respect, and empathy. It encourages positive behavior and conduct through appropriate communication, discipline, and example to build a strong relationship between parents and children.
Parenting is a process in which parents play a role in the appropriate guidance, love, affection, protection, and overall development of their children. If we look at the Nepali culture and context, the role of parents is even deeper. Because, family-centered social culture has occupied an integral place in the upbringing of children.
Although according to the traditional method, strict punishments and restrictions have been given priority to discipline children, in recent times, the use of effective methods such as kindness, love, understanding, healthy and supportive behavior and relationships has added a new dimension to positive parenting. It encourages mutual trust and coexistence between parents and children, and also inspires children to become responsible, confident, intelligent, and moral.
Becoming a positive parent is only possible with constant patience, understanding, and understanding speech and behavior. For various reasons, our society often does not take children's feelings very seriously. But in positive parenting, children should be encouraged to express their thoughts by understanding their feelings. Such an environment increases children's confidence and intelligence; which helps them cope with stress, fear, and frustration in the right way. This method builds the relationship between parents and children based on trust, understanding, and support.
When children feel heard and understood, they express their problems and happiness with complete confidence. Moral education and family values are important in Nepali society. This method strengthens these values and helps children become honest, cooperative, and responsible individuals. Most of the time, children's stubborn and negative behavior frustrates parents. But by adopting this method, children should be guided in the right way and encouraged to reduce such behavior.
Positive parenting is a method based on love, respect, and empathy. It encourages positive behavior and conduct through appropriate communication, discipline, and example to build a strong relationship between parents and children.
Through love, empathy, and positive encouragement, children can be made responsible, self-reliant, and confident individuals. This method of parenting builds mutual love and trust in the family, creating the foundation for a balanced and dignified life.
In the context of Nepal, traditional discipline methods such as strict discipline, intimidation, and physical punishment are still used more, but this is not a long-term solution to the problem, but rather it hinders the positive development of children. Therefore, it is necessary for every parent to adopt a positive parenting method. Because, it balances the development of all aspects of the child and encourages him to be self-reliant, responsible, and confident. So, let's look at some important basic elements of positive parenting.
Relationship with children: There should be a quality relationship between children and parents because the relationship is the basis of positive parenting. Having meaningful conversations, teaching or reading, and playing together with your children strengthens the relationship. Their trust, closeness, obedience to their parents increase and they adopt positive learning.
Comparing their children to other people or children, abusing or behaving badly in public places or in front of others creates negative feelings in them, makes them feel inferior, which reduces their confidence and disrupts their trust in you as well as their harmonious relationship.
Empathy and understanding: Parents need to be aware of their child's feelings. Parents need to find out what obstacles or problems they are facing and what thoughts and solutions they are looking for or are unaware of. They should take their problems seriously and teach and help them find solutions in an understanding and sensible way to solve them.
Encouragement of positive behavior: Parents need to be aware of what their children's desires, expectations and goals are and what they are good at. They should praise their children for their small and big achievements and praise their good behavior. Directly teach about good behavior and its positive effects through stories, etc. and encourage its implementation.
Clear rules and boundaries: Since humans are social creatures and live in society, they should have knowledge of personal, family, religious, cultural, economic, social, and other rules and have the ability to fully comply with them. Therefore, parents should follow those rules themselves and motivate their children to follow them. It is also the duty of parents to give children regular discipline and knowledge of culture from a young age.
Set your own example: What kind of behavior is displayed is more important than what is taught to children. That is, children learn a lot from the behavior of their parents. Therefore, they should demonstrate patience, honesty, and responsible behavior.
Open and clear Communication: Children's ways of expressing their thoughts vary according to their developmental characteristics. With whom, what, and how to express them depends on their beliefs and communication practices. Therefore, it is necessary to create an environment where children can easily express their thoughts and feelings.
They should listen carefully and respond appropriately. It is necessary to communicate based on facts with evidence, explain regular discipline and manners, and understand them closely.
Positive parenting is very important for Nepali society. It is not only a way to discipline children, but also a method to make them able to face various challenges in life happily, easily, and successfully.
Children can be made responsible, self-reliant, and confident individuals through love, empathy, and positive encouragement. This method of parenting builds mutual love and trust in the family and lays the foundation for a balanced and dignified life.
